Ningol chakkouba

Ningol chakkouba is one of the unique festivals in manipur and is the biggest festival of the meiteis where every married women of the household are invited to a feast at their parental house. It is celebrated every year at the second day of the month of hiyangei which falls on the November. The festival itself delivered the message of loved and harmony among the siblings, to celebrate the day some, brothers and parents gathered together to make it feel warmth and proud by the women of every household also gifting called ‘dakhina’ is given to every women whether it is small or big, symbolizing their cared and blessing to their daughters and sisters. The uniqueness of the festival is the grand feast that where only prepared by the brothers of the family. Which is not celebrated at any parts of the world. In this big day different manipuri cuisines where prepared, consisting of fish like puklaobi, silver-carf kori, Elisha, pengba, etc which are rare fishes of manipur also eromba, champhut, etc can be mentioned as modernization aroused chicken cuisines became famous. Together they enjoyed the feast as time for bidding goodbye arrived. Most women felt emotional that they missed there family as well as remembering there parental home or childhood. We meiteis believed that a girl real home is not where they raised but it’s their husband house. We really appreciate our ancestors for being continuing this unique festival. The separated families where brought together once in every year.
